The Slocan Community Health Centre in New Denver has a 4-physician working group that provides coverage in groups of 2.
Four rural physician colleagues practice in the lovely rural BC setting of New Denver on Slocan Lake! Just over an hour from Nelson, we serve a catchment area of 1900 with good local amenities, including a K-12 school. The New Denver Medical Clinic, the ER, and a 26-bed long-term care facility all share the same facility.
Two doctors working together in tandem. One physician mainly covers ER during clinic hours, and the second is able to focus on booked clinic patients without undue interruption. They rotate with another team of two doctors doing the same for a similar duration. The first physician team is off during that time.
The Emergency Department is not high volume, and we have telehealth capability in the trauma room. You will see all ages, acute and chronic illnesses, occupational injuries from mining and logging, and increased activity in the summer months with tourism. Our team is collegial and positive, making work a pleasure.
Our rural lifestyle includes such favourite activities as backcountry skiing, boating, biking and snowmobiling. We are casual by nature!

On-Call Date(s) / Hours: Our current hours are 0800-2000hr 7 days a week but the plan is to revert back to 24/7 ER if nursing availability allows
Local Resources: On-site lab and x-ray several mornings/week. iStat after hours and some x-ray call back availability. Onsite PT and HCCN.
Emergency Framework: On-site RN, one trauma bed, two holding beds. Ambulance services located in same building. Typically 2-8 ER visits per day. Varies by season.

Gen Surg, Ortho, Urology, Plastics, OB/Gyn, Ophth, Int Med/ICU in Trail. Int Med, OB/Gyn, Ophth, Peds in Nelson. Telehealth capability on site.
EMR System: Intrahealth Profile. Interior Health provides a formal package and informal mentoring from resident physician available also.
Welcoming Procedures: Resident physician will welcome you, show you the nearby apartment.
Orientation: Provided by resident physician who will tour the facility with you and answer any questions.
Social Involvement: Excellent recreational activities in area with many staff willing to show you the trails, lend you a kayak etc.
